In 2014, I founded Portland Underground Grad School, a grad school for everyday life. PUGS is an in-person community of lifelong learners who want to keep growing and changing without having to pay $10,000s or disrupting their daily lives to go back to school. Our goal is to upend the 20th century model of hierarchical, expensive, and restricted education to make school lifelong, accessible, and egalitarian. As founder, I created the vision for the school and built the product, communications, operations, customer service, and strategy, as well as managed one part-time employee. In four years, it grew to offering 75 courses to over 900 students a year.

In 2018, I stepped down as Head PUGGER and continue to teach at the school. I teach:

  • Financial Freedom: Taking Control of Your Finances to Live the Life You Want

  • How to Teach, How to Learn

  • The Appreciation Project

  • Inner Wisdom at Work

  • Our Jobless Future: The Dangers and Possibility of a Post-Work World

  • The Catalyst Course

  • Criminal Law: How to Think Like a Lawyer
